Block and Stack Planning
Block and Stack planning can be very useful when developing the plans for which floors teams will be moved to. Where teams land in the new building, who sits next to whom, how much room you leave for growth, and whether scattered spare desks get consolidated into something usable. Work Future has developed its own proprietary block and stack planning tool called Work Stack, so you can test scenarios and compare options before any moves are made.
Moving people during a refurbishment
If your project is actually a refurbishment of your existing space, the people in that impacted space have to go somewhere while the work happens. That is an office decant, and it is a puzzle of who moves, where to, in what order, and how to keep the number of moves down so you are not shifting the same team three times. We plan decants with Work Move, another proprietary in house developed tool which generates a clear, phased move plan showing swing space, sequencing and the number of moves involved, so you can compare options before committing to a plan.
Why Perth organisations are reworking, not relocating
Perth's CBD will not see any new office buildings being built until after 2030. This lack of new supply is influencing the market for those considering a move. If there is nothing suitable on the market when you need it then staying where you are and reworking the space you have often delivers the results you need. An office restack, a consolidation, a right-sizing of a footprint that perhaps hybrid working or AI adoption has left partially empty, these are the considerations for many Perth occupiers right now. If you are weighing a move against staying put, that can be supported through our third in house developed proprietary tool Work Calc. It starts with your workplace problem and then guides you through how much space you need, especially if you have more people than desks, ways of working considerations, and future fit out costs tailored to your city. Combined into a report with the relevant options to assist you in making a stay vs go decision.
Why Work Future
You work directly with Peter Stansfield, who has over fifteen years of workplace and relocation delivery behind him, across single sites and large multi-site portfolios. The planning tools we use on your move, Work Stack, Work Move, and Work Calc were built from the logic of real relocation and restack work.
Frequently asked questions
How far ahead should I start planning an office relocation?
Earlier than most people think. The move day is the visible deadline, but the decisions that shape the move, where teams sit, how much space you take, whether you are moving at all, sit well upstream of it. The sooner the planning starts, the more options stay open and the less you pay to unwind a decision later.
What is the difference between a relocation and a decant?
A relocation moves people to a new workplace, permanently. A decant moves people out of a space temporarily while works are carried out, then back again or on to a final destination. A refurbishment usually involves a decant. We plan both.
What is the difference between a refurbishment and a fit out?
A refurbishment is usually upgrading your current space and a fit out is usually upgrading the space you will move into.
Can you help if we are staying in the same building?
Yes. A lot of the best moves happen inside the building you already occupy, through an office restack or consolidation. The planning is the same discipline, and in Perth's tight market it is often the smarter option than relocating.
Do you manage the moving company?
Yes. We help you analyse the market, appoint the right mover through your procurement process, and then manage and oversee them through the move so the day itself runs to plan.
Do you work outside Perth?
Western Australia is our base, but we work with clients across Australia. The discipline is the same wherever the workplace sits.

If you have a lease event, a growth question, or a workplace that no longer fits the way you work, the cheapest time to think it through is now, while the options are still open and still on paper.
